Screen Printing

It's always been a dream of mine to incorporate a retail component to my design business.  Worboys Design launched an online shop late last year as a place to find fun prints and cards as well as a holiday subscription box.  I loved working on this with my team but always felt it was lacking that "special" element.

So, we closed up shop last Friday to spend the day at a private screen printing workshop and I think we're all hooked...

It was an awesome day with an even more awesome team!  Keep an eye out for adult and children's apparel, prints, cards, bags and whatever else we can get our hands on. WD Shop coming soon!!

Repurposed Birthday Cards

I think I'm a hoarder.

I have such a hard time throwing away the sweet little cards that Winslow has received over the years.  There's a part of me that thinks she'll have fun looking at and reading through them when she's able to.  Mother of the year, right?!  To prove to my hubby that I do not, in fact, have hoarding tendencies, I threw all but a couple away.  And I've FINALLY figured out what to do with them.  I picked up 16 two dollar frames from Ikea, threw a deer head into the mix and voila!

Anything to pass the time waiting for Baby Girl #2.  We're ready to meet you, girlfriend!

Hoo Loves You?

There's nothing like waiting till the last minute to figure out what to do for your 2 year old's class for Valentine's day :) Luckily Winslow and her BFF were up for crafting this evening...

Pretty darn cute.  Yes, that's embossed.  Because when you purchase an embossing gun, everything in sight gets embossed.

Happy Heart Day!

Electric Orange.

Instead of ditching our bedside lamps completely, a good friend and designer suggested painting them.   And here you have them… electric orange!

Before...

After…

And my silly little monkey, who wanted to get involved…

I love the way these turned out.  The bright accent of color is just what our room needed.  The next to go are those super dark and bulky bedside tables.  Hoping it doesn't take me another 10 months to pick them out.

Have a great weekend y'all!

Launched!

New Year + New Website.  I'm feeling so incredibly proud/blessed/excited to announce that Worboys Design's new website has launched!!

Sadly, this poor website hadn't been updated visually since 2008.  So I'm beyond excited to see this website FINALLY go live after years of "talk" about updating it.  I'm so proud of the entire WD crew who helped put this baby together.  I would still be talking about it without you.  Well done, team!!

This whole process has really made me sit back and feel extremely proud of what WD has accomplished over the past 8 years.  We've built  amazing partnerships with long time clients, worked on new, exciting projects and helped friends build their new businesses.  And it could not be more rewarding.  It was hard to give in to the idea of letting go of the design work to focus on building the business but I've found the most INCREDIBLE design team that I love working with every single day.

So, if you have a chance, please take a quick moment to click around and see what we've been up to :)

CHECK IT OUT!

Bring on 2014 - I can't wait to see where it takes us all!

Merry, Merry!

Just a quick (and sadly, random) note to say MERRY CHRISTMAS from the de Windt household to yours!  I hope your holiday season is filled with loads of love and laughter with loved ones.

Let us all be thankful for the massive amount of blessings in our lives!

Sending our love to Bangkok, Leitchfield, Melbourne, Maui, Amsterdam, Simpsonville, Boston, Christiansburg, Rochester, San Diego and everywhere else, while we're cozied up in our home this year :)

Add a shade.

When we bought our home last Fall, we fell in love with the vintage finishes and fixtures.  Not all of it was our style exactly, but we knew it just needed a modern twist.  Definitely easier said than done!

I gave this chandelier, that hangs in our sun/piano room, a full year to grow on me...

I really wanted to like it... but... no shot.  It reminded me of something you'd find in a bad Chinese restaurant.  I considered painting it white, because that usually does the trick, but decided it had to go. Before I had the chance to pick something out, my girlfriend Beth of Armijo Design Group, saw it and suggested throwing a drum shade over it.  Genius.

Voila!  We happened to have an extra shade sitting in storage that was the perfect fit.  I went from cringe to obsessed.  I love the crystals peaking out the bottom and the shadows reflected on the ceiling and shade.  Love, love, love.  I'll be posting more DIY home improvements Beth has talked me into.  Think, bright orange spray paint...

The. Best.

Could there actually be anything better than an anniversary gift made by your 23 month old?! Doubtful.

It was topped off with, "Look!!  Present for you!  By myself!" when I walked in the door.  Proud lil Boo.

The. Best.

Winslow's nanny couldn't be more sweet and thoughtful.  SO THANKFUL for her!

Home Update.

Both hubby and I have loved the look and impact that a collection of neatly and tightly arranged frames make all together.  So we used the big dark blue/gray wall in our entry way as the spot for it.

Before...

And after...

Frames and mats from Aaron Brothers and artwork from ZGallerie.  Each image is from an Ink Blot game that cost $15.  Sort of creepy and sort of beautiful.  Either way, I love that it's the very first thing you see when you walk through the front door!

10 months later, we're finally getting around to hanging some artwork :)

A special gift for my love.

The weeks and weeks that I had to wait to give this birthday gift to my hubby were brutal.  So I was like a giddy little kid when I finally got to see him open it...

The wall in our living room needed something special... something a touch edgy to contrast with the traditional feel that we have going on.  So I decided to surprise him with a custom piece that highlighted our wedding day with the amazing photos by Melissa Vossler that we had yet to print in a substantial size - 3+ years later!

I owe all the credit to Miss Jordan, my incredibly talented designer who brought this piece to life.  She worked in photos of the houses we've lived in, our ceremony on the dock, the vows we had written and read to each other on our wedding day, the birth date of our baby girl, the mountains from our years in Tahoe and trip to Patagonia, San Diego's Mt. Soledad cross, the cliffs along the beach where he proposed and lots of other elements that make up our almost 10 YEARS TOGETHER!

I was nervous printing this 36x48 print without his input, but that wouldn't have been any fun and since Worboys Design had created a couple murals similar to this for various project that he's raved about, I went for it.  And luckily, it passed.

It's such a special piece and I can't think of a better reason to put this together.  Love you hubby and thank you for all of the memories that we get to walk by everyday :)
